Miami

A Oasis by the name of John Macleod.

sunny 27 °C

We are in Miami at the moment, John Macleod has been treating us well.
Since our last posting, on the way here we have enjoyed the St Patricks day parade in Savannah, some beach time in Florida, did the Juniper Run in FL, saw some Gators, alternator light came on, drove to Orlando to go to Busch Gardens, only to realize its in Tampa, broke and replaced our alternator, slept in a walmart, went to the Kennedy Space Center but refused to pay the 40 $ admission, and Finally arrived in Miami.
Claire and I have been sleeping in the Van in the parking lot, while adam has been staying in his dads room. We witnessed South Beach and have eaten some great food.
The Frist night we arrived, Adams father wined and dined us, 24 oysters, 2 pounds of peel and eat shrimp followed by entrees, as well as ample drinks and desserts.
We are heading out to the Keys tomorrow, we tried to book a campsite in advance but we were told that you usually have to book at least 11 months in adavance, give me a break. We are going to search for some free parking spots and some cheap seafood.
Our computer is not working so no Photos yet, we will figure something out.

Charleston- urban camping night #1

Hi!
Soooo.... we are all still alive, van is intact and we are writing this from a Mac store in Charleston, South Carolina. The past couple days have been awesome.. wednesday we spent touring around Harpers Ferry which is a historical little town which borders Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland, camped in George Washington National Park made chili. amazing.
Thursday we headed to Bath, Virginia where we went to Jeffersons Pools, which are natural hot springs housed in these 200 year old bath houses.. we figure that counted as a shower.
Yesterday we headed to Chimney Rock in North Carolina but the weather didn't cooperate and we figured we would skip the tourist attractions for the day and hole up in the van... reading, vodka waters and curry sums up our day..
Today we drove from Chimney Rock to where we are now Charleston, we are urban camping tonight (which for those we aren't familiar- we are sleeping in a church parking lot until our parking pass runs out at 5am....) and will probably tour around a bit more tomorrow and then head to Savannah. We're chasing the sun as the weather has been a bit colder than expected and 5 days is along time to wear one pair of pants continuously.
Thanks for all of your messages and we will try and post pictures when we can!

Tomorrow, Its happening.

After a misfire today, we are ready to roll tomorrow morning.

sunny 20 °C

The van is packed, passports photocopied and the open road tomorrow.
We are heading off the the Shenadoahs looking for free camping and large waterfalls. We plan to spend a couple of days traveling the skyline drive and surrounding area, doing some hiking and avoiding showers.
20 degrees and sunny here today, take a moment to let that sink in.

Cleaning the mouse shit out.

Getting the van ready for Mexico.

overcast 8 °C

We finally got to work on the van. After the initial drive from Halifax in November, its been sitting in Virginia collection dust.
With a little loving the van was looking new, ready to roll, all the shit cleaned out.
We decided it was time to stop hoping that the spare tire was OK and actually time to take a look at it. As initially suspected, it is probably original with the van from 1984, about time to get a new one.

Here is the basic route. enjoy.
